What is your curriculum?

Published on Thursday, August 31st, 2017

The curriculum is STEAM-based i.e. science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Our curriculum links to the New Zealand Curriculum.

We have developed our own Ngāti Whakaue science curriculum framework – Te Whareaonui.

Te Whareaonui aligns the scientific process of enquiry with the construction of a wharenui. Students relate to the symbolism of the wharenui enabling them to engage more confidently in the enquiry process.

We have already developed detailed learning programmes and associated resources in a wide range of kaupapa including

  • Whakapapa (Genetics)
  • Te Ara Ahi (Geology and Geothermal)
  • Waitai (Salt Water and Marine Biology)
  • He Pātaka (Kai Māori, Rongoā)
  • Matariki (Astronomy)
  • He Awa, He Tupua (Fresh Water)
  • Ahuwhenua (Agriculture & Horticulture)
  • Te Ihi, Te Wehi (Forces)
  • Te Pūmairangi (Energy & Light)
  • Ki te whai ao (Investigation-Project)
  • Te Wao nui a Tāne (Forestry)
  • Toitū te hangarau (Technology & Robotics)
  • Te Mauri (Astrobiology)
